A theoretical mixing model for themal storage tank of temperature-stratified type was developed in order to study the optimum operation strategy of thermal storage air-conditioning system. The mixing model predicts temperature profile in the storage tank under any time-variable input condition. Furthermore, a heat pump model was also developed in order to study the operating characteristics of the whole thermal storage air-conditioning system. The following is a summary of the obtained results. 1. A mixing model was developed through experiment results conducted in order to study the mixing characteristics in tank under some variable input conditions. 2. Validity of the model was confirmed through experiment under input condition simulated charge and discharge cycle of actual air-conditioning system. 3. Validity of the model was also confirmed through measured data of an actual air-conditioning system. 4. Outlet temperature model was developed through experiment in which temperature and flow velocity distributions around the outlet were measured. 5. A theoretical model for refrigerant cycle, condenser, evaporator and compressor of air-source heat pump was studied in order to simulate the behavior of the whole thermal storage air-conditioning system.
