Research into the Effect of Resort Cnstruction on Freshwater Fishing and the Environment at Lake Inawashiro

This study investigates the environmental issues resulting from resort construction and water pollution at Lake Inawashiro, Fukushima Prefecture, where freshwater fishing and leisure activities such as swimming, yachting and rowing coexist. Recentry, deveropment of the area has been affecting the natural habitat and the lives of the residents, briging such probrems as boat accidents that damage the local fishing industry.In the study data on Lake Inawashiro and the surrounding area is analyzed. Particular emphasis is placed on oral reports from the local fishermen about their life and work, and the environment around the Lake.Results of the research are as follows :1. Laisure development and construction in the Mt.Bandai area, such as lakeside resorts and ski-slopes, cause environmental issues.2. Leisure construction can cause water pollution in Lake Inawashiro, thus influencing the fishing industry by depleting the resorces of fish in the lake.3. The fishermen of the area have an understanding of the problem through thier fishing activities.4. The fishermen of the area accept the problems and not attempt to find a solution for of the environmental issues aristing in Lake Inawashiro.
