本年は近代に入ってから(明治末)東京周縁に展開し始めた荒川区の下町住宅密集地区を対象に、居住者1戸1戸に対して(1)居住歴(移住の要因と時期の確定)、(2)以前の住宅平面と現在までの改変過程、(3)住戸の周辺環境の変化、(4)町全体の環境の変化、の4つのレベルについての聞き取り調査を行い、その結果をまずデータシートに集積した。調査では地区全戸の調査を総合するのが理想であったが各家の事情から全戸とはいかなかったことや、また現住家族の年齢構成のばらつきにもよって、必ずしもある地区についての連続的かつ均質な情報が得られたとは言えない。しかし近代の地図や文献による情報などを補充し、何とか目標とする地区全体の環境変容の連続的情報をまとめることができた。この情報をまとめるにあたっては、それぞれの証言を家ごとにコンピュータ上にヴィジュアライズし、重ねる方法をとった。その結果、この地区全体の変容過程の実態が、個々のデータの集積から可視化されるとともに、環境の質が大正期〜昭和20年代と、昭和30年代以降で大きく変化してくることが明らかになった。また今回のデータをまとめるにあたってコンピュータ上のライブラリにつくられたいくつかの環境要素のボキャブラリーは、少なくとも東京下町の地域を対象とする同種の環境変化の調査に適用することができると考える。今後、今回の対象地域の周辺部をはじめ、江戸末から明治、あるいは昭和期に江戸-東京の周縁に展開した下町地域の調査を進めることによって、拡大して行った東京の「まち」あるいは集住環境の形成と変容についてのさらなる知見を得たいと考える。また、同時に手法的には今回のデータ集積システムをさらに改良するとともに、現在の課題である入力効率を将来的には上げ、住民の方の話を聞きながら画面を構成して行けるようなシステムを持って行きたいと考えている。
