本研究を(1)石釧の資料集成、(2)実測調査、(3)分析と考察の3段階に分けて実施した。(1)の資料集成については今後の基本資料としての活用に備え、出土地名一覧、規格、計測値、型式、図面等の主要な項目を検索可能な電算システムとしてのデータベースを構築した。今回は図面などの画像データを取り込んだことにより、資料相互の比較検討が格段に効率的に実施しうることになった。また(2)の実測調査については東京国立博物館において岐阜県長塚古墳出土の石釧70点の実測調査を実施したほか、三重県各地出土の石釧15点、奈良県出土石釧1点については嬉野町教育委員会、三重県立斎宮歴史博物館、京都大学文学部博物館、奈良県立橿原考古学研究所等で実地調査を行った。本年度の資料調査によって、従来までの蓄積を加えると総計約600点の実地観察・作図作業を終えることになった。以上の基礎作業を踏まえ、石材、環体断面形、刻線表現等の分類作業にもとづく型式学的指標の設定を試みた。系統関係はすでに5系統に整理されることを解明してきたが、今年度特に重視したのは各系列内における新古の関係をいかなる形でならば適切に把握しうるのかであった。この問題について、主要な2系列については刻線の条数や深さが丁寧さの指標となり、石材や断面形の推移からみた場合の新古の諸相と対応してくる可能性の高いことを発見した。条数が少なくかつ深く刻まれ、仕上げが全体に丁寧なものほど他の要素が古相である場合が多く、条数が多く浅い刻みで仕上げが粗雑なものほど、他の諸要素が新しい傾向を示すものに多いのである。この点を踏まえ、3段階の型式設定が可能となった。これら一連の作業によって、石釧の編年枠の大筋については確定しえたと考える。

This study consists of three stages: (1) data integration,(2) survey,(3) analysis and investigation. (1)The data integration will be based on the future use of basic data, excavation name list, specifications, measurement value, type, surface and other main items to explore the possibility of computer system and construction of the data.
