项目摘要

まず一般にガリレオの言語思想と言語表現の大きな特徴のひとつと見なされている「明晰性」について解明することとした。その第一歩として、彼の言語や文体に対する基本的な考え方を主著『太陽黒点論』や『偽金鑑識官』、『世界の二大体系についての対話(天文対話)』、パオロ・グアルド宛の1612年6月16日付けの書簡、『タッソへの考察』等を分析することで明らかにした。すなわち、彼は「本質」と「名辞」の関係を正確に見極めた上で、「はっきり理解し得ること」すなわち「明晰性」を重視すべきだと言うのである。またこのような立場は16世紀前半に起きた「言語論争」において最終的に勝利を収めたベンボを代表とする「アルカイズム」-アカデミア・デッラ・クルスカのラインの考え方に非常に近いものであった。次にガリレオ自身の言語表現の特徴を明らかにするためにも、「明晰性」を中心にした彼の文体の肯定的評価がどのような歴史的経緯をたどって形成されたかを、ガリレオ直後のレ-ディに代表されるガリレオ派、18世紀啓蒙期のアルガロッティとパリ-ニ、19世紀のレオパルディとデ・サンクティスらの著作から探った。その結果、ガリレオが科学と文学の言語のなかに要求した「明晰性」は17世紀を通じてトスカ-ナのガリレオ派によって継承されたが、これが14世紀・16世紀のトスカ-ナの伝統を負ってたつアカデミア・デッラ・クルスカに結びついて、16世紀後半から17世紀を席捲した悪趣味的傾向「バロック」を駆逐し、18世紀啓蒙主義につながったとする歴史観が、ガリレオの文体に対する肯定的評価を生み出したことが明らかになった。以上の研究結果は拙論「ガリレオの文体に対する評価の変遷」のなかにまとめた。また上述の研究に並行して「月」の記述をめぐってガリレオをイタリア文学史のなかに位置づける試みを拙論「イタリア文学における宇宙的認識について」のなかでまとめておいた。
