農業および非農業への労働供給が、農業部門の不確実性への農家の応対として決定されているのではないかという仮説に基づき、理論モデルおよび計量モデルの検討、データの収集・整理等を行った。理論モデルに関しては、まず、不確実性を含まない雇われ兼業農家のモデル(中嶋、1986;辻井、1992 等)と、不確実性下の企業モデル(Sandmo,1971等)をベースにし、不確実性下の雇われ兼業農家モデルを構築した。そして、雇われ兼業農家が、農業および非農業(雇われ兼業)部門というリスクの程度が異なる二つの部門から収益を得る点に注目し、資産選択の理論(Sandmo,1969;Diamond and Stiglitz,1974等)を応用して、農業部門と非農業部門との間の収益におけるリスクの差がそれぞれの部門への労働供給に影響するようなモデルを検討した。このモデルから、資産選択の分析に用いられているCapital Asset Pricing Mbdel等の計量モデルを構築して計量分析を行う予定であるが、計量モデルにうまくつながる理論モデルの構築の点が未解決になっている。計量分析に用いるデータに関しては、竹歳(1993)で用いた、日本の農家経済調査の都道府県別クロスセクショナル・タイムシリーズ・データを再整理するとともに、不十分な部分を補った。また、このような集計データでは不十分な推計結果しか得られないことも予想されるため、タイおよびマレーシアにおける農業調査の戸別データを入手し、分析に耐えるよう整理中である。使用する計量モデルによっては、このデータを用いることも考えている。
