We have prepared DNA-lipid complex by mixing both aqueous solutions of DNA from sermon testes and cationic lipid molecules. The precipitated DNA-lipid complex is soluble in most of organic media, bur not in aqueous solutions. When chloroform solution of DNA-lipid complex was cast on a glass plate, a transparent, physically strong film was obtained. Following results were obtained.1)A cast film was stretched in one direction, the DNA-aligned film was obtained, which was confirmed by X-rya diffraction analyses.2)When the DNA-lipid cast film was soaked in aqueous solution of ethidium bromide, the film was colored to red due to the intercalated ethidium bromide dye molecules. Orientation of intercalated dye molecules could be confirmed by polarized absorption spectra of the film.3)DNA-aligned cast film showed a large anisotropic behavior of conductivity. The electrostatic conductivity was observed along the DNA strands in the film, but not perpendicular to the DNA strands.
