「小売価格と流通コスト構造に関する理論的・実証的研究」というタイトルのもとに,日本の流通システム変格の実態とその理論的・実証的分析を行った.こうした研究は,1997年度に出版予定の2つの書物,「応用ミクロ経済学」(創文社)と「日本の流通変革(仮題)」(有斐閣)の内容として公刊する予定である.そのための準備として,8本の論文をまとめ,そのうち5本を雑誌論文とし公刊し,3本を共著の図書として公刊した.代表的な論文の内容をまとめると次の通りである.(1)"A Game Theoretic Analysis of the Competition in Marketing Channel," Annals of the School of Business Administration,Kobe University,No.40,1996では,価格,販売促進,流通チャネル選択という企業間競争の多元性を,多段階にわたる意思決定として並べ,多段階ゲームのフレームワークを用いながら,統一的なモデルの中で論じている.小売業者の販売促進活動の有効性が高く,ブランドに固執する消費者が多ければ,選択的チャネルが均衡となり,ブランドに固執しない消費者が多ければ,開放的チャネルが均衡となることを導いている.また,この結果をもとに,商品ごとの流通チャネルの相違,国別の流通チャネルの相違,製品ライフサイクルに応じた流通チャネルの変化といった問題について論じている.(2)「垂直的取引の調整とリスク対応」石井淳蔵・石原武政(共編)『製販統合』(日本経済新聞社)では,製販統合というメーカーと小売業者との新しい取引関係を在庫投資の延期化と情報シェアリングとしてとらえ,垂直的なリスク分担と情報シェアリングについてモデル分析を行うと共に,従来の日本の商取引慣行との関連性を検討している.
