Aim The aim of this study is to evaluate short-term effect of frozen-stored disk allograft following diskectmy on the osteoarthritic sheep temporomandibular joints (TMJ).Materials and Methods Osteoarthritis was induced in bilateral sheep TMJ.Three months later, unilateral diskectomy and frozen-stored disk allograft repair were performed. The donor disk had been obtained from healthy aheep at sacrifice. The disk was deep-frozen and stored at-70 degrees Celsius for a month and thawed at grafting. The contralateral joints were not disturbed, being served as a control at 3 months. At 6 months after the initial procedure, the sheep were sacrificed.Results All grafted disks were perforated and displaced. In the grafted joints, condylar srticular surface was partly denuded and some part of the surface showed fibrous repair. The control joints showed osteoarthritic changes.Conclusion Frozen-stored allogenic disk has a little indication for an interpositional material in an osteoarthritic TMJ.
