At present over 10,000 Vietnamese have been settled in Japan. A large part of them came to Japan as refugees since 1975. This research aims to grasp their transnational network among the Vietnamese who are living in different countries including Vietnam. The research, based on field research materials collected through in depth interviews and participant observations, focuses on their religious network in 1998, and family network and their life in 1999. As a result, it was found that their religion has been influential in assisting the Vietnamese in developing their community, maintaining a global network with family members who stay behind in their home country and in other parts of the world. It was also discovered that young Vietnamese who have been brought up in Japan use their family network for their life strategies, and their family network has been influential in their consciousness of ethnic identity. Finally, how important it is to consider the relationship between Vietnamese and Japanese based on the result of this research was suggested.

目前，已有一万多名越南人定居在日本。其中很大一部分自1975年以来作为难民来到日本。本研究旨在掌握他们在包括越南在内的不同国家生活的越南人之间的跨国网络。这项研究以深入访谈和参与者观察收集的实地研究材料为基础，重点关注1998年的宗教网络和1999年的家庭网络及其生活。结果发现，他们的宗教在帮助越南人发展社区、与留在祖国和世界其他地方的家庭成员维持全球网络方面发挥了影响力。研究还发现，在日本长大的越南年轻人将家庭网络作为他们的生活策略，而家庭网络对他们的民族认同意识产生了影响。最后，提出了根据本研究结果考虑越南和日本之间的关系的重要性。
