Studies on high-dimensional functions of glycoconjugates toward development of new medicines and biomaterials

某些种类的抗神经节苷脂与各种神经系统疾病（如格林-巴利综合征（GBS））的特定临床特征相关。本课题合成了两种糖缀合物，以阐明GBS的发病机制以及产生抗神经节苷脂自身抗体的机制。一种是在神经系统中发现的具有复杂结构的次要神经节苷脂，GalNAc-GD 1a、Lactoganglio-1和Lactoganglio-2。另一个是空肠弯曲菌（Campylobacter jejuni，C.jejuni）的脂多糖（Lipopolysaccharide，LPS），它是GBS患者在GBS出现之前感染的病原菌。

Certain species of anti-gangliosides are associated with specific clinical features in various neurologic diseases such as Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS). In this project, two kinds of glyco-conjugates were synthesized to clarify the mechanism to cause GBS as well as the mechanism to produce autoantibodies to gangliosides. One is the minor ganglioside with the complex structure, GalNAc-GD1a, Lactoganglio-1 and Lactoganglio-2, which are found in nervous system. Another is Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of Campylobacter jejuni (C.jejuni) which is known to infect the patients of GBS prior to appearance of GBS.All of the target molecules have been synthesized successfully in our hands, and the evaluation of the functions of these molecules are now under investigation.
