1) クリニカルクラークシップの概念を整理し、その構成要件を明らかにした。クリニカルクラークシップは、従来の見学型臨床実習や、患者の協力を得て診療練習を行う模擬診療型臨床実習とは異なり、「診療参加型臨床実習」である。クラークシップの主たる要件は、(1)医学生が、医療チームの一員である「クラーク(学生診療助手)」として、実際の患者診療の中で実習を行う、(2)医学生はその能力に応じて、指導医の指導監視の下に、許容された一定範囲の医行為を行う、(3)これらを通して、医学生が医師となるために必要な知識、技能、態度・習慣を身につける、ことである。2) クリニカルクラークシップの導入に必要な条件を明示した。クラークシップの導入には、(1)準備教育としてコミュニケーション能力、自己学習能力、基本的診察能力の育成を図る、(2)基本的知識・基本的技能の到達度を事前に評価する方法(客観的臨床能力試験等)を整備する、(3)医学生に許容する医行為とその水準を大学ごとに明示する、(4)クラークシップにおける到達目標と評価法を設定する、(5)指導教員の臨床教育能力を開発・改善する、(6)医学生も加えたチーム医療体制を整備する、(7)患者の同意を得る方法を標準化する、ことが必須である。3) 調査研究の成果を公開討論し、研究報告書を全国医科大学等へ配布した。調査研究報告・招聘講演を公開し、公開討論会も開催した。講演・討論会には約170名が参加した。招聘講演により米国の先進的なクラークシップ制度の実態を把握すると共に、我国における積極的な導入事例も紹介した。これらを通してクリニカルクラークシップの概念を整理し、導入への方策とその問題点を明らかにした。さらに外科、産婦人利、小児科、麻酔科、放射線科など、各診療科に特有の問題点とその対策も提言した。これらの成果を報告書にまとめて出版公表し、文部省・厚生省・全国医科大学等の関係諸機関へ配布した。
