この研究計画で当初計画したことは、「動物分類学関連学会連合(以下「分類連合」)」の設立、「分類連合」による国際誌の創刊、そしてパイロット研究の実施、であった。まずはアンケートを実施し、会議を2回開催した。「分類連合」の設立にはどこからも異論は出なかった。国際誌の創刊は、各分類群別学会が現在刊行している雑誌を統合し、編集や印刷、配布の効率化を図り、雑誌の地位を上げるという、一石三鳥の効果がある。しかし、「これまでの分類群別雑誌がつぶれてしまう」等々の否定的なアンケート結果により断念した。パイロット研究の実施は、場所の選定と経費の出所に問題が多く、これも断念せざるを得なかった。そこで、まずは「分類連合」を設立し、ニュースレターを作り、各動物群別学会の雑誌の目次や要旨、催し物の案内、会員の意見等々を掲載して情報交換を行い、年次大会やシンポジウム、講演会などの共同開催も視野に入れることとした。こうして、動物分類学に関連する日本貝類学会、日本魚類学会、日本蜘蛛学会、日本原生動物学会、日本甲殻類学会、日本ダニ学会、日本動物分類学会、日本土壌動物学会、日本爬虫両棲類学会(あいうえお順)の9学会は、すべての動物群の専門家を網羅する組織「日本動物分類学関連学会連合」を設立し、共通の認識に立って生物多様性の解明をはじめ、動物分類学全般に関わる研究および教育を推進するための活動を行うことを決意した。「分類連合」はめでたく平成12年1月8日に設立され、当日及び翌9日にかけて設立記念シンポジウムが開催された。参加者は200名を越え、最後に企画されたパネルディスカッションでは活発な意見交換が行われた。

The understanding of biological diversity and understanding of zoology are related to research and education. "Classification Union" was established on January 8, 2012, and the memorial service was opened on the same day and on the 9th of the following day. 200 participants were invited to participate in the final project to exchange views.
