Developmental research on means of communication and exploratory activities for pupils who utilize homebound/hospital education services

The purpose of this research was to develop means of communication and exploratory activities for pupils with profound and multiple disabilities who utilized homebound/ hospital education services. Subjects were total 14 children with severe and multiple disabilities, and five children were guided at clinical center of the national institute of special education and nine were educated by special school teachers at institutions for handicapped. Several alternative and augmentative means for communication and voice output communication aids were worked out or utilized for each child through the continuous guidance/education. The effectiveness of "Motorized Scooter Board" was also considered in terms of locomotive means for exploratory activities. And it was important to consider assistive input devices and adequate posture for children with severe physical disabilities to operate the communication aids and the scooter board.In the final report, four case studies at the clinical center and two reports based on education at the institutions were introduced.
