项目摘要

今年度当初には、前年度に執筆した論文に若干の加筆訂正を施した「18世紀パリ王立科学アカデミー終身書記による『科学の有用性』をめぐる言説の変遷とその背景」(『化学史研究』第29巻、第3号、2002年)が出版された。年度前半はフランスに長期滞在して、前年度に引き続きパリ王立科学アカデミーに関連する資料を集めた。フランス科学アカデミー古文書館、国立学士院図書館、国立古文書館などに所蔵されたマニュスクリプト及び当時の印刷文献が主な資料となった。その結果、当時の科学研究活動の具体的な内容のみならず、研究者達の人事の様子や、旧体制下の身分制度と複雑に関わり合ったその政治力学なども明らかになった。また、アカデミーと学術的な面で交流のあった各種機関、特に技師養成学校に関する資料をも集めるため、陸軍歴史古文書館や土木学校図書館を訪問した。アカデミーを中心に構成された、当時の科学研究の場が、他の諸機関とどのような関係性を保っていたかを分析するためである。その成果は仏語論文"Transformation des relations entre Science et Etat au milieu du XVIII^e siecle"(仮題、投稿準備中)にまとめられた。年度後半は日本にて、協力者と共に、集めた資料の整理や日本の大学図書館などに点在する資料収集を遂行した。また、その作業と並行して、政治と科学の関係を問うに当たっての方法論的問題の考察に取り組み、論文「科学と国家-外的科学史と内的科学史の超克へ」(『科学史科学哲学』、2003年、印刷中)を執筆した。上記の作業及び、前年度から継続する研究により、コンドルセの社会数学がいかなる形で当時の知的・政治的文脈と接続し、相互影響を及ぼし合っていたのかを立体的に把握することが出来た。
