1.Establish the strains of Anabaena spiroides complex.We collected samples for A.spiroides from around Japan and Germany, and establish the strains of A.spiroides.2.Morphological observation.We have kept these strains and tried to let these strains make akinete. We measured size of vegetative cells and akinetes and took photographs for the strains which made akinete. We also published main part of these results (Watanabe et al. 2005).3.Description of new species.We described Anabaena akankoensis as a new species. This species was observed at Lake Akan and established as a strain in this study.4.Molecular analysis.We have used several primers for amplify 16s rDNA. The combination of a reverse primer published in Gugger et al. (2002) and universal forward primer (27f), made a best results in our study. Our results of molecular analysis is well fitted to morphological analysis than previous papers. Correct identification using akinete should be important.
