项目摘要

大衆レベルでのナショナル・アイデンティティとローカル・アイデンティティとの相互関係について、戦後日本の各地における民謡及び民俗芸能の構築・流通・享受を通じた大衆のナショナル/ローカルなアイデンティティの構築過程を素材として、ナショナルな言説のローカルな場における独自の読み替えやズレ、また逆に国民国家に適応する形でのローカルな共同性の再構築や変容に着目することによって解明した。それによって以下の点において、従来の研究に幸いては見出されてこなかった、新たな知見を提示することができた。すなわち、ローカルな文脈において民謡や民俗芸能が持つ独自の意義を解明していく中で、各地において外部とのコミュニケーションの中に存する「文化仲介者」といった社会的アクターとそれらが創り出す関係性が、単にローカルなアイデンティティを創出しそれをナショナルな想像力と結びつける際に、単に国家の文化財保護政策のレベルにおけるナショナルな意図を体現するというのではなく、むしろローカルな文脈での地域振興や観光開発といった目的の下でその意図が流用され、そういった文化政策が具体的な場において持つ意味が変容していくプロセスについて明らかにした。このことによって、従来の国家という絶対的なアクターが創り出した一面的な連帯としてネーションを捉える従来のナショナリズム研究に対し、(1)ナショナルな論理がローカルな文脈において読み替えられると同時に、その読み替えを通じて当初国家が想定した意図とはある程度ずれた形でこそ、ローカル・アイデンティティとナショナルな想像力が連関していること(2)その際、各地において外部とのコミュニケーションの中に存する「文化仲介者」といった社会的アクターとそれらが創り出す関係性が、単にローカルなアイデンティティの創出ばかりでなく、それをナショナルな想像力と結びつける上で重要なことを明らかにした。
