项目摘要

本年度の研究は、アンコール期以前のクメール建築や都市にその焦点を定めた。特に、7世紀、プレアンコール期のチェンラの首都であったとされるサンボー・プレイ・クック遺跡群の都市構成における研究を進めている。網羅的な踏査と聞き込み調査により、公式には60の寺院遺構が報告されていたにすぎないこの古代都市で新たに多数の遺構を発見し、現在までに115の考古学的サイトが周域に散在していることを確認するに至っている。これらのサイトはGPS測位法を用いて、高い精度で位置情報を獲得し、付属する遺物や現存状況などのインベントリーの作成を進めている。また、遺跡群中央の3つの伽藍を中心として、伽藍配置と遺構の平面測量を行い、残存状況の良いほぼ全ての遺構の記録を終えた。この調査により、東南アジアにおいて初めて発生した多重周回的な配置を示す伽藍構成の概念が、すでに最初期より極めて高い施工精度をもって成し遂げられていることが確認された。ただし、各遺構の計画にはそれぞれ微妙な違いが認められ、それが施工精度によるものか、意図的な計画上のものであるのか判断するには至っていない。また、遺跡群内の表採調査を広範囲にわたり進め、当遺跡群よりも早い時代の都市で確認されている遺物との相関を得るに至った。遺跡群内は数mの堆積土に覆われているが、各所でボーリング調査を実施し、およそその最盛期における都市の表層深度を確認すると共に、当地の地質的な特質の概要をつかむことができた。さらに、広い範囲での遺構の分布を把握するために、既存の土地利用図や地質図と携帯型のGPSを組み合わせたプログラムを作成し調査を進めている。このほか、サンボー遺跡群内では、遺構室内の発掘調査・散乱破断彫刻部材の復元考察・壁体の彫刻装飾の記録・古写真の収集を進めた。より広い地域の研究としては、カンボジアの中南部とラオスにおける初期クメール建築の予備調査を行い、同時期の寺院建築の広がりとその様式的特徴を確認すると共に、都市レベルでの展開の様子を把握することを試みた。
