A Study on the presentation and the reception of Classical Antiquity in the Renaissance Architectural Drawings

I classified the notebooks and the albums of architectural drawings according to its usage and purpose, and demonstrated the aspects of the reception of classical antiquity in the Renaissance. I examined four renaissance albums in which ancient buildings were drawn,1.So-called "Northern Italian Album" preserved in the John Soane Museum in London, in which many city view were drawn with the one-pointed perspective method,2.Group of the architectural drawings called "fantastic architectures", that is to say, the imaginary architectures inspired from the ancient Roman architectures,3.Houfe Album which was discovered recently, composed of 55 architectural drawings, probably drawn by the workshop in Siena, of the famous renaissance architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini,4.Architectural drawings drawn by an engineer and architect Antonio da Faenza in the early sixteenth century, illustrated Vitruivius' architectural theory composed of 640 architectural drawings in 122 folios.I clarified that the drawings of the ancient architecture were partly drawn not for the purpose of the classical interest but for a practical use.
