本研究は、平成16年度までの継続研究であるとの内約を頂いていたが、分担者である加賀谷真子氏が本務校(アメリカ・ウィリアムズ大学)の勤務上の事情により急遽帰国を余儀なくされたために、平成15年12月末日で研究を終了した。以下はそれまでの研究実績の概要である。本研究は、現代の能における観客動向の把握という基本テーマに視点を置きつつ、現代において能がどのように評価されているのかということを、歴史学的・社会学的視点から考察しようとするものであった。本年度における主な研究実績には、下記のようなものがある。1.16世紀後半から明治維新までに焦点をあて、来日したヨーロッパ人が日本の芸能、また能についてのこした記述の調査収集。フロイスの『日本史』などの現代語訳資料から記事を摘録・収集した。さらにオランダ国立ライデン大学東洋文庫に調査を行い、来日オランダ人の記録中の能楽関係資料を調査した。2.近代の能の国際評価という視点から、明治大正期の、外国人による能楽に関する記録、またその報道(外国人の観能がどのように日本の新聞で報道されたか、またそれは当時の社会背景とどのようなつながりがあるのか)などの調査。国立能楽堂刊『明治の能楽』『大正の能楽』をはじめ、諸資料から記事を摘録・収集した。3.近現代の能界の実態の把握のための能楽史に関する資料、著書講読などの基本作業。4.戦前の日本の植民地における公演資料の調査収集。植民地で刊行された新聞や能楽関係雑誌を閲覧した。5.国内及び海外公演の沿革を調査するため、(「能楽タイムズ」初刊より等)能楽専門誌から、公演演目、海外公演に関するニュースなどの収集。演劇博物館所蔵資料の他、法政大学能楽研究所等の資料も一部参照した。6.海外学会において成果発表を行った。「革新と伝統 新作能をめぐって」於ヨーロッパ日本研究協会第10回国際大会、ワルシャワ大学、ポーランド(2003年、8月27-30日)なお、次ページに掲載予定論文を掲出するが、いずれも校了しながら、まだ雑誌自体が刊行に至っておらず、ページが確定できないため、その分は空欄にしてある。

This study was completed in December 2015 by the end of 2016 by the end of 2016. The following is a summary of the results of the study.
