The purpose of this research is to develop a flexible delivery system for femto-pulse lasers and high-powered Nd : YAG lasers oscillated in near infrared wavelengths by using a dielectric-coated, hollow metallic optical fiber. Since ultrashort and ultrahigh-energy pulses enable highly efficient ablation of human tissues, the delivery system is necessary for safety and painless medical treatment.The following results were obtained in this research :1.Fabrication of silver-coated hollow fibers with highly-smooth surface and high mechanical intensity2.Study on mechanism of formation of dielectric polymer film and development of coating method3.Smoothening of inner surface of silver-coated hollow fibers4.Fabrication and evaluation of hollow optical fibers for GW-class Nd : YAG lasers5.Loss reduction of polymer-coated hollow optical fibers6.Evaluation of hollow fibers for Q-switched Nd : YAG lasers and improvement of durability for high power pulses
