Various sorts of textual sources are assembled and scrutinized in order to clarify the process of territorial expansion and the administrative policy of Neo-Assyrian Empire. Thus, four studies are produced as follows :1. "Karus on the Frontiers of the Neo-Assyrian Empire" (by Yamada) : This is a comprehensive study of all the references to the cities named with the word kr-"port, trade center" as Kar-X, as well as other mentions of karu and blt-kari"trade center" or "emporium" in Neo-Assyrian textual sources. This clarified details of Assyrian colonization and trade control on its frontiers that gradually advanced from the middle Euphrates to the Mediterranean coast.2. "The City of Togarma in Neo-Assyrian Sources" (by Yamada) : This deals with the geo-political position of the city Tegarimmu/Til-Garimmu (Biblical Togarma). Concluding that the city must have been located in the Elbistan plain, we described the development of Assyrian rule over the eastern Anatolia from this geo-political focal point.3. "Qurdi-Assur-lamur : His Letters and Career" (by Yamada) : This scrutinizes a series of letters written by Qurdi-Assur-lamur, an Assyrian official who took a significant role for Assyrian dominion over the Phoenician coast. The study revealed his career with some aspects of Assyrian administrative-economic policy in the region.4. "They Divided the Orontes River between Them : Arpad and Its Borders with Hamath and Patin/Unqi in the Eighth Century BCE" (by Ikeda) : This study concerns the relations between Assyria and Syrian states, Arpad, Hamath and Patin, from the end of 9th century to the middle of 8th century BC. Scrutinizing data from Akkadian, Aramaic and biblical sources, it revealed the changes of the borders between these Syrian states, which were strongly influenced by Assyrian policy on this region.
