The original aim of this study was to understand the disintegration of the USSR from a historical viewpoint. Having collected vast amount of new materials, we have established that the political process that led to the end result was very much heterogeneous from republic to republic. We have analyzed this complex process with great stress of ethnic and language policy. As object of case study, we have chosen Estonia, Moldova, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. The process of the language law discussion in each republic was closely analyzed, and we could get a deeper understanding on how the federated state was disintegrated. This finding will greatly enrich our view on the former USSR and its aftermath.

本研究的最初目的是从历史的角度来理解苏联的解体。在收集了大量的新材料之后，我们已经确定，导致最终结果的政治进程在各个共和国之间是非常异质的。我们分析了这一复杂的过程，重点是民族和语言政策。作为案例研究的对象，我们选择了爱沙尼亚，摩尔多瓦，乌克兰和哈萨克斯坦。通过对各共和国语言法讨论过程的分析，可以对联邦国家的解体有更深的认识。这一发现将大大丰富我们对前苏联及其后果的看法。
