本研究の最終年度においては、昨年度までの理論研究をもとに、自己主導的学習者(self-directed learner)という観点から、遠隔学習者個々人のもつ学習に対するレディネスについて、定量的な調査研究を行った。さらには、遠隔学習者の特性と学習意識についても把握しようと試みた。なお、調査は、放送大学の学生(学習センター)を対象にして実施した(データ数:174)。その結果、遠隔学習者の「自己主導的レディネス(self-directed learning readiness)」の合計スコア(全58項目)は、平均値で209.2、1項目あたりに換算すると、3.61となった。中央値が3.00であるから、概して肯定的な回答が寄せられていた。さらに、このスコアは、成人を対象とした先行研究の数値に比べても高い。このことから、自己主導性や自律性の高い遠隔学習者像が浮かび上がってくる。さらに、学習への意識についてもみてみると、学習意欲や学習の継続性・持続性など軒並みきわめて高い数値となっていた。このあたりからも、遠隔学習者としての特性が今後導き出せそうだ。しかし、その一方で、多くの遠隔学習者が放送大学での学習について不安や戸惑い、さらには孤独感を感じていることも看過できない。そのため、彼らのうち65%がチューター等の個別の学習支援者の必要性を感じていたのも納得がいく。こうした側面の特性についても、今後研究をすすめ、遠隔学習者のための学習支援に関する理論と実践方策の開発を試みていきたい。なお、調査結果は現在、分析中であり、あらためてこの研究成果を発表していく予定である。また、それに関連して、成人に関する学習支援の方法についての考察も行った。
