项目摘要

平成16年度本年度は平成14年度及び平成15年度の研究結果をふまえ、ロマン派と奴隷貿易との関連についての研究をさちに発展させ、イギリスロマン主義におけるヒューマニズムの問題についての研究総括をおこなった。(1)イギリス奴隷貿易廃止論争の歴史的政治的概観の総合的分析、(2)イギリスロマン派詩人の哲学的宗教的背景の資料の収集と分析、(3)ブレイク、ワーズワース、コールリッジ、ジェイムズ・グレインジャー、ウィリアム・バウルズ、ジェイムズ・モンゴメリーにおける奴隷貿易に関する言説の相違点の総合的分析、(4)イギリスロマン派詩人の哲学的宗教的背景と18世紀的平等主義思想の関連の分析を行った。その結果、18世紀後半から19世紀前半にかけてのロマン派言説におけるヒューマニズムは特に人種間の平等という概念において観念的限界が明らかになった。課題(1)、(2)、(3)、(4)に必要な図書の購入やコンピュータ検索による分析結果の総合的整理、また国内の研究機関における18世紀末から19世紀前半の奴隷貿易廃止論争に関する文献、及び奴隷問題に関するロマン派詩の資料収集を行った。また課題(2)におけるロマン派詩人の哲学的宗教的背景に関する資料、課題(3)におけるジェイムズ・グレインジャー、ジェイムズ・モンゴメリーなどの文献は国内では入手困難なので、イギリスにおける研究機関(大英図書館、ボドリアン図書館、ノッティンガム大学図書館、ノッティンガムトレント大学図書館)での調査が必要であり、同年度夏に渡英し資料の収集分析を行った。同年度3月に以上の研究結果の一部を研究論文にまとめ、『英文学と道徳』(園井英秀編著九州大学出版)において発表した。
