北タイのチェンラーイ県パーン郡の農村でのフィールドワークで観察された事例について、「伝統的」な形態の灌漑システムの盛衰に各アクターの思惑や行動がどのように関わるのかをポリティカル・エコロジーの視点から分析を試み、論文にまとめる作業を進めている。また、これまでのタイの住民組織による資源管理のあり方についての研究との比較対象として、文化や言語の面ではタイとある程度類似している一方で、政治的・経済的状況が大きく異なるラオスにおける天然資源管理の事例に関する研究を行ってきた。ラオス北部ウドムサイ県パクベン郡で、住民の森林資源利用のあり方についてフィールド調査を実施するとともに、現地の研究機関および開発機関・NGO等からラオスの森林行政に関する資料収集・聞き取り調査を実施した。パクベン郡の事例について、地域住民が抱えている天然資源の利用と保全に関する問題を取り巻くアクターを整理し、ラオスの土地・森林委譲政策や少数民族を低地に移す村落移転政策などの国家政策、ラオスの天然資源管理に関わる国際機関やNGOの動向が、地域住民の天然資源管理のあり方にどのような影響を与えているかを検証している。2006年3月にはラオス国立大学林部において「Forest Resources Management by Local Residents」というタイトルで研究成果の報告会を行った。報告会には、林学部学部長をはじめとする研究者および林学部の学生の参加を得た。タイとラオスの事例から、天然資源の利用と保全をめぐる「問題」の政治性を分析した上で、NGOや研究機関などの外部アクターの役割に注目し、住民主体の天然資源管理を成功させるために外部アクターが果たせる役割と課題を提言することを目的として研究を進めている。
