项目摘要

本研究は、製糸工女の働き方に着目し、日本資本主義の発展を底辺で支えた女子労働の再検討をおこなう。具体的には、農村社会との密接な関係を基盤として展開した「優等糸」製糸経営を事例として、経営・労務管理の分析から近代日本の女子労働をとらえなおすことによって、重工業大経営の男子職工を中心に構築された近代日本労働史研究に再考を迫るものである。平成18年度は、これまでの研究成果を踏まえ、収集資料の整理・分析を継続しておこなった。本研究が事例とする郡是製糸株式会社は「優等糸」製糸経営の代表的存在として知られるが、同社の分析は、研究史の空白であった優等糸製糸経営のあり方を解明するとともに、諏訪製糸業に関する近年の研究を相対化する一助となり得る。その成果は、博士論文「日本製糸業における雇用関係とその基盤」にまとめられたが、本年度は残された課題にこたえるべく、さらに詳細な検討を進め、出版準備をおこなった。とくに、同社の特徴が多工場経営にあることから、各工場の生糸生産に関するデータを分析し、異なる地域に多くの工場を経営する際に生じる生糸生産の困難に同社がどのような取り組みを見せたのかを実証的に検討し、諏訪製糸業とは異なる生糸生産のしくみを明らかにした。また、東條由紀彦著『近代・労働・市民社会-近代日本の歴史認識I』ミネルヴァ書房、2005年に対する書評においては、近代日本の労働を考察する際に、製糸工女の働き方が有する問題について若干の見解を示した。
