本研究は、甲骨文字そのものを分析することによって、殷代の信仰を中国文化史の中に位置づけて、その特質を究明することを目的とする。本研究は殷代諸種の信仰を五つの時期に分け、時代の流れに沿ってその信仰の発展を追うという方法を採る。本年度は前年度に続いて人鬼(祖先)例えば先公、先王、先妣、諸子、諸母、旧臣などに対する信仰を考察した。先王と先妣の系統は先達の研究によって解明されたところが多いのに対し、より古い時代の先公に関する研究は多岐にわたったままで未整理の部分が多い。そこで先公に重きを置き、これまでの研究成果を詳細に検証し、先公に関する卜辞を時代順に整理し、それぞれの特徴を見出した。また甲骨文字と文献資料と実地研究とを結びつけ、多様な資料を活用し、帝の信仰について論文「甲骨文字に見える帝の信仰」を書き上げ、『人間・環境学』第15巻に刊行する予定である。この論文では字形の歴史的変遷に基づき、新しい論拠を提示して「帝」字の本義を明らかにし、また「帝」字を含む卜辞を網羅し、字義や内容などによって細かく分類したうえで、「帝」に関する信仰の実相を探った。更に文字や信仰を合わせて検討し、それらが中国の文字や信仰に与えた影響をまとめ、中国文化史上に正確に位置づけてその特質を明らかにしてみた。本研究では殷代信仰に関する具体的問題の解決を通じて、殷代信仰研究における全ての関連卜辞の断代と分析の有効性を示している。本研究は伝統的な考証学の方法を基盤としながらも、コンピュータによって統計的分析などの手法を取り入れている。そしてそれらの文字や信仰などに関する疑問点の解明を試みながら,文字の考証や卜辞の断代による殷代信仰研究を体系的に進めてみた。
