Towards the sustainable development in Asia

This study has examined the roles of multinational companies in Asian developing countries. Focusing on companies in India, we have visited a number of Japanese as well as American and European companies and made surveys to their manager, workers, and local communities.On the contrary to the general belief that most multinationals pursue their own business interest for making profits, and hence making little contribution to the local communities, it was revealed that many multinational companies have made significant contribution to the sustainable development of less-developed economies from technological transfer to environmental conservation. Especially the automobile industry was a good example, as their supply-chain is long and the room for technological transfer is significant/Among the roles of Japanese ODA, we have concluded that assisting Industrial Training Institutes is most cost-effective and we also proposed that these efforts have to be supported by private companies, as this types of ODA does not always success without link to the private sector.
