2001年に発足した就学告諭研究会は、研究代表者・研究分担者・研究協力者総計18名の研究会である。2002年には日本教育史研究会主催サマー・セミナーにおいて、研究会会員が様々なテーマで報告しこの研究課題の重要性を広く学界に明らかにすることができた。2003年度から科学研究費補助金を得て、全国調査を開始した。全国47都道府県の担当を決定し、就学告諭の資料収集を目指した。同時に、就学告諭の概念・内容・発布主体・頒布方法・地域性など考察と研究を重ねた。2004年度には教育史学会・第48回大会(於・法政大学)コロキウムにてこれまでの収集した資料の紹介、および研究の中間発表を実施した。2005年度には全国調査悉皆調査を終え、分析の方法とデーターベース化に関する議論を深めた。データーベースの専門家を研究会に招き、どのような方法でデーターベース化が可能なのかを深く議論した。2006年度は最終年度として、集中して研究のまとめに関する議論をおこなった。その結果、研究会会員全員が執筆する論文編、これまで収集した資料編、資料の全体像が一覧でわかるデーターベースを内容とする学術図書を刊行し、新たに科学研究費補助金(学術図書)に応募することを決定。夏までの研究会例会で校正と執筆分担を行い、10月までに原稿をとりまとめ、科学研究費補助金(学術図書刊行)に応募した。書名は『近代日本黎明期における「就学告諭」の研究』(東信堂から出版予定)である。幸い、科学研究費補助金(学術図書刊行)の交付内定を得ることができ、現在刊行に向けて努力している。4年間で研究会例会は、合計で40回に達し、ニューズレター『千里の馬』は20号を数えた。
