The initial stage of an environmental design process determines the whole project plan, and the extent to which cooperation activities are performed smoothly over this short period of time has a great influence on the future success or failure of the enterprise. This research was aimed at construction of a collaborative design system that enables quick, interactive examination of a design, and which allows participation by the various people concerned from the initial stage of the design using high reality expression.First, in order to clarify the requirements of the integrated system for the initial stage of an environmental design, arrangement and analysis were performed regarding the methods for expressing and transferring the thoughts of the people involved in the design process. An important feature of the collaboration in an environmental design was shown to be the examination method of the environmental design. This was approached using the phases of "environment", "activity", a … More nd a "place", and was arranged and analyzed from the viewpoint of collaboration, media and collaboration, and expression media. From these analysis results, the contents which can support a design system were arranged in the design process of the initial stage of an environmental design. Next, in consideration of the feature of an environmental design plan stage, the following six viewpoints required for an environmental design system were clarified. (1) examination by 3DCG, (2) open design process, (3) realistic expression (4) pursuit of an activity, (5) presentation of a temporary completion image, and (6) the smooth correspondence to an individual requestThese viewpoints were satisfied, and the framework and definition model of an environmental design system which can examine each phase in "environment", "activity", and a "place" by turns were shown in the environmental design plan stage. The system developed along with these was employed in an actual environmental design plan stage, and its validity was verified. Moreover, using a cellular phone fitted with a camera and a GPS function, scene image data was collected and a system in which the input and display of a picture with position information and comment information are possible was built within a 3D space model. Furthermore, an actual proof experiment was conducted and the validity of the system was verified.
