今年度は、アジア太平洋地域で発生している自然災害の研究事例を統合化することを中心に研究を行った。また、2004年度では日本で異常な洪水・台風災害が発生していることもあり、自然災害のなかでも洪水事例を多く取り上げることにした。さらに、アジア太平洋地域で発生した自然災害についても、統計資料、及び、データなどを収集して、統計的な処理を行い、分析を行った。この際、ことに社会的な見地、人文科学的な研究視点に立脚して、自然災害の研究を行っている研究者に面会することにした。自然災害の研究概況を掌握するために、岐阜大学工学部の高木先生に面会して、工学部における日本人研究者の災害研究の蓄積と現在の研究動向を探るとともに、岐阜大学においてジョイント講義を行い、岐阜大学の研究者との研究連絡の輪を作り、今後の研究の展望を話しあうとともに、ヨーロッパにおける自然災害研究者との知識を共有するために数回の討議を行った。また、アジア各国からの研究者との面会を行い、欧米とアジアの自然環境認識の違いについて話し合った。さらに、つくばの防災科学研究所佐藤研究室を訪問し、日本で試みている「統合的な自然災害研究の将来的な方針」を聴取するとともに、ドイツの防災システムについてのユルゲンが報告し、意見交換を行った。さらに、神戸市で開催された「地震災害10年」の企画による国際会議(自然災害会議)に参加して、各国からの来日している研究者および行政、研究機関の事務官、国連の各機関の実務担当官との個別の会合を持ち、2004年度及び2005年度始めの災害研究のあり方、及び、実務としての自然災害・防災・警報システムに関わる手法、技術などの討議を行った。学内においては、水曜日午後にサイエンスコミュニケーショの講義を行い、日本人学生に向けた災害研究の知識の共有に関する自主ゼミの中で、科学知識の統合化に関わるゲーミング理論を構築するとともに実践した。また、これらの研究を通して、4月2日には弥生講堂において研究成果の一部を発表した。
