フィールドワークとして、フランス各地での図書館における16世紀演劇テクスト、特にソチの写本・印刷本の閲覧などを行った。その結果として、現在われわれに残されているソチのテクストがいかなる目的で印刷されたのか、あるいはこれらの印刷本がテクストの伝承過程においてどのように位置づけられるのかを総合的に検討する作業に入り、大きな展開を見た。すなわち、ソチの印刷本の外的側面(作者名の有無)およびテクストの状態(詩作技巧の乱れの存在、句読点の種類やその多少、等々)が、作品自体の内容の諷刺傾向や修辞技巧の問題、さらには上演時のテクストの保存程度と密接に関わっている、ということを、有力な仮定として得たのである。著者名が明記され、詩作技巧の乱れや誤植などが少ないテクストは、現代のわれわれからすれば「読みやすく」また「理解しやすい」テクストということになるが、これは逆に言えば著者あるいは印刷業者の側から、多くの修正が加えられたということでもある。本来はおそらくは即興などを交えつつ演じられたであろう、スペクタクルとしてのソチを現代のわれわれが再構築する上で、むしろ無署名の「読みやすくない」テクストが、その上演時の姿をより多く伝えている可能性はないだろうか。この展望は同時に、印刷された劇テクストが、15世紀末から16世紀初頭にかけての演劇・文学の世界においてどのような位置を占めていたのかを考えることにもつながるだろう。総じて、研究対象である印刷本テクストを、より広い文化史的視点から位置づけ直したことが、本年度の研究の最大の成果といえるだろう。具体的には、2本の研究論文の執筆(採用済み)、および2回の日本での学会発表(日本フランス語フランス文学会2005年度秋季大会、および同2005年度関東支部大会(後者は3月に行われる予定)のなかで、以上に述べた展望を具体例に基づいて展開した。
