本研究は、13世紀にカシミールで作成された宗教的説話集『ハラ・チャリタ・チンターマニ(シヴァ神の諸行の如意珠)』(Haracaritacintamani,HCC)の成立の背景を、所収説話の並行話との比較によって、解明することにある。そこで、HCC全32話を内容別に(a)シヴァ神に関連する物語:25話、(b)女神に関連する物語:6話、(c)その他:1話(未完のため分類不能)に分類し、このうち女神が重要な役割を果たす物語に着目して、参照資料のひとつと考えられるインド古代説話集Brhatkatha(BK)の諸伝本との相関関係を中心に研究を進めた。本年度は、上記(b)の6話のうち、BK伝本とパラレルの物語であるHCC25とHCC26を精読し、他文献(Avadanakalpalata,Brhatkathamanjari,Kathasaritsagara,Hitopadesaなど)との比較分析を行った。また、精読に際しては、資料調査によって入手しえた写本を随時参照し、問題のある箇所については校訂を行った。その結果、HCCはKathasaritsagaraと最も近い関係にあることが確認された。また、「Brhatkathaの伝承-カシミールの二詩人はどのように伝えたか?-」(平成17年7月)という題目で、本研究の発展的論考として、HCCの典拠の一つとして用いられていたカシミール伝本のBKがシヴァ信仰を反映する説話集としてどのように形成されたのか、その問題点を指摘する発表を行った。
