项目摘要

最終年度に当たる平成17年度は,これまでの実地調査で判明した四つの全体的な傾向,つまり,(1)高専におけるドイツ語教育の今日的意義の相対的希薄化,(2)高専の外国語教育における英語教育の徹底した実学化,(3)高専の教育課程における英語以外の外国語科目の低い位置づけ,(4)中国語などを中心とした多様な外国語教育の漸次的広がり,を踏まえて,さらに特徴的な傾向を浮き彫りにするための調査を進めた。具体的には,インターネットのHPなどを活用し,全63校(国立,公立,私立)の教育課程表から英語以外の外国語教育の実施状況を調べた。教育課程表の掲載がない場合には,電話取材と実地取材を行い,正確なデータの収集に努めた。その結果,1997年度の教育状況と比較して,履修形態と履修学年の点で大きな変化が生じていることがわかった。確認できた範囲ではあるが,まずドイツ語を必修科目にしている高専が38校から26校に減り,逆に英語以外の複数の外国語科目の必修選択,多様な科目の中から英語以外の外国語を選ぶ選択必修(あるいは自由選択)といった履修形態が大幅に増えている。履修学年についても,高校段階に当たる1・2・3年次に英語以外の外国語を開講していた高専が18校から13校に減っている。このように,(5)英語以外の外国語科目の履修形態としての脱必修科目化,(6)英語以外の外国語科目の履修学年(4・5年次)の固定化,という傾向が明らかになった。上記の研究成果の一部は,ポーランド・ワルシャワ大学東洋学研究所主催日本学招聘講演会(2005年12月8日,ワルシャワ大学,ワルシャワ)において,「日本の高等専門学校と英語以外の外国語教育-英語志向の時代潮流の中で問われる必要性と展望-」と題して口頭発表した。
