本年度は,(1)貿易商人とワインの関係に関する分析,(2)ワイン商業の経済的・社会的構造に関する分析という前年度の作業を,ボルドー商業会議所とワインの関係という視角から,より実証的に深めることをめざした。そのため,ボルドー商業会議所の社会的構成上の特徴を探ること,および1855年のワイン格付制定プロセスをめぐる会議所の立場を分析することが中心になった。作業では,(a)史料上の欠落によるデータの不完全さを補完するため,データ処理方法を工夫して,1802年〜1908年のボルドー商業会議所にみる人的構成を時系列的に再構成するとともにその特徴を分析し,(b)1855年格付制定をめぐる会議所の態度を議事録等にもとづき分析した。(a)の分析から,1848年(二月革命)を画期として人と家系の構成が大きく変容したことが確認できた。他方,(b)の分析では,1855年格付が会議所のかかわりなしに理解できないことは,すでに前年度に指摘したところだが,それどころか商業会議所は地域のワイン利害を代表する唯一の存在として自己を正当化する態度を顕著に表明していたことが明らかになった。(a)人的変容と(b)商業会議所の態度を綜合すれば,19世紀中葉に新規に参入してきた商人層,とりわけワイン利害と密接な商人層の台頭が,「ワインの街」という都市の個性強化に大きく寄与したと考えられる。前年度までの研究により,商業会議所が地域権力として寡頭性・自立性に特徴づけられる傾向をもっていたことが明らかになった。つまり,新規参入商人が「ワインの街」という個性強化に寄与したのは,商業会議所というひとつの強力な地域権力をつうじてにほかならないのである。以上の研究成果は,口頭発表とともに,裏面記載のとおり論文としても公表した。大商人層には現在にまでつらなる商人家系がみられるので,人的変容という「断絶」のみならず「持続」の側面も無視できない。それらの商家には外国人,とりわけドイツ商人がめだつ。これら外国人の存在に注目する研究は皆無であり,今後の課題として残っている。
