核-細胞質間蛋白質輸送に関する研究は、輸送因子や核膜孔複合体構成因子の同定・性状解析などが進み、基本メカニズムの理解が進んだ。しかし、核-細胞質間蛋白質輸送が、細胞分化、個体発生、細胞周期などの複雑な生命現象にどのように関連しているか不明である。本研究では、細胞核が様々なストレスにどのように応答するのかを、核-細胞質間蛋白質輸送制御の観点から解明を進めた。
