This study aims to explore the current state of community businesses and challenges toward their sustainable development In terms of our approach, we employed the comparative research method based on cross-countries between Japan, the UK, United States and Sweden from the perspective of focusing on the impact of community businesses on the local regeneration. We conducted both quantitative and qualitative studies. In conclusion, we identified the following fact findings. First, in recent years, "social enterprise" has become more common concept that means an entrepreneurial and hybrid organization than "community business". Second, social enterprises have been increasingly viewed as the alternative business model for traditional nonprofit organizations and business enterprises. Third, the concept of social enterprise has attracted new kind of entrepreneurs, so called social entrepreneurs and provided the space for their development. Fourth, In particular, in the area of social inclusion, the partnership between government and social enterprises has been increasingly the alternative model of public private partnership. Finally, intermediary organizations have contributed to promote networking of social enterprises, their public awareness, partnerships with other institutions, and strengthened their business structure.

本研究旨在探讨社区企业的现状及其可持续发展所面临的挑战。在研究方法上，我们采用了基于日本、英国、美国和瑞典的跨国比较研究方法，从关注社区企业对当地更新的影响的角度出发。我们进行了定量和定性的研究。总而言之，我们确定了以下事实调查结果。首先，近年来，“社会企业”已成为比“社区企业”更普遍的概念，意指一种创业型和混合型组织。其次，社会企业越来越被视为传统非营利组织和商业企业的替代商业模式。第三，社会企业的概念吸引了新型企业家，即所谓的社会企业家，为他们的发展提供了空间。第四，特别是在社会包容领域，政府和社会企业之间的伙伴关系日益成为公私伙伴关系的替代模式。最后，中介组织促进了社会企业的联网、其公众意识、与其他机构的伙伴关系，并加强了它们的业务结构。
