今年度は、主に以下の2つのテーマを柱に研究を進めていた。一つは「盲ろう当事者に対するニーズ調査」であり、もう一つは「既存に研究開発されている盲ろう者向け機器の整理」である。当事者へのニーズ調査については、現在の盲ろう者のコミュニケーションや情報機器アクセス状況などを詳細に把握するため、当事者に対しインタビューの実施を前提に準備を進めていた。盲ろう者の全国的な集まりや地域の当事者団体が主催する交流会などに出向き、こうしたインタビュー調査への協力を依頼し、また同時に予備的な調査を実施した。現在5,6名の盲ろう者から協力の承諾をいただいており、また予備調査の段階で、1)盲ろう者向けのスクリーンリーダー及びメールソフトが必要、2)もっと触読しやすい点字ディスプレイの開発が必要、3)独力で扱える電気製品やガス器具が必要、などの要望が出された。既存機器調査に関しては、こうした機器の研究に携わっていた研究者に協力を得ながら、現在調査する項目を固めているところである。特に「指点字」という盲ろう者向けコミュニケーション手段をヒントとした「指点字インタフェース」に関して、複数の方式が存在しているため、まずその整理を予備的に実施した。現在おおよそ1)ハンマー式、2)振動式、3)指つき式、4)点字提示式、の4方式に分類できることがわかっている。
