本研究の目的は、17世紀英国共和主義の多様性を視野に入れながらジェームス・ハリントンの思想的特徴をより精緻に把握した上で、改めて経済学形成期へのその影響を展望する点にある。その準備的考察として、研究初年度の今年度は、17世紀英国の複数の共和主義理解-統治機構論的共和主義と、道徳哲学的共和主義-の並存に焦点を当て、ハリントンを含む同時代共和主義者がどのような位置関係にあるのかを解明した。具体的には、第一に、17世紀英国の共和主義者たちに関する先行研究を、可能な限り網羅的に精査することにより、ハリントンと他の共和主義者との関係が、いかに描かれてきたのかを分析し、併せて、17世紀英国共和主義を総体把握するための諸論点を確定した。特に、先行研究の中で、統治機構論と道徳哲学的主張とがどのように関連付けられているのかという点に注目した。第二に、上記の作業により得られた諸論点を踏まえ、共和主義者たちの著作物を再読した。特に注意を払った点は、統治機構論がその議論の大半を占めるハリントンの諸著作を同時代の共和主義者たちがどのように評価していたかの解明であった。そして、王政の牽制の論理としての制限君主政的混合政体論と、国王の存在を前提としない混合政体論とが、17世紀英国共和主義者の中でも十分自覚的に区別されずに時論を展開している点を再確認した。このことは、すでに研究史上、簡潔に指摘されていたが、上記の共和主義者たちの著作に依拠して具体的に把握したことは、本研究の目的を達成するために有益だと考える。第三に、ケンブリッジ大学において開催された研究集会へ参加し、類似の論点を研究する研究者と、本研究の遂行に当たって必要な意見交換をおこない、併せて資料も収集した。

The purpose of this study is to explore the characteristics of the 17th century British republicanism and its influence on the formation of the modern English republicanism. A review of the preparation of the study in the early years of the 17th century in England: the understanding of republicanism in the theory of governance institutions, republicanism in the philosophy of morality, and the coexistence of the focus of contemporary republicans. A detailed study of the relationship between the 17th century British republicans and the 17th century British republicans has been carried out to determine the arguments for a comprehensive understanding of the relationship between the 17th century British republicans and other republicans. Special attention should be paid to the concept of moral philosophy in the context of advanced research and governance institutions. Second, the work of the Republican Party was re-established. Special attention should be paid to the discussion of governance institutions and the work of contemporary republicans. The theory of mixed government, the premise of the existence of the king, the theory of mixed government, the theory of self-determination of the 17th century British republicans, the theory of internal time, and the theory of internal time are reconfirmed. This article is about the research history, conciseness, and the work of republicans. Third, the university opened a research meeting to encourage researchers to participate in research on similar issues, exchange views and collect data necessary for the conduct of this study.
