本年度は、別室登校による校内支援のあり方について明らかにするために、実際にスクールカウンセラーが(教職員へのコンサルテーション、保護者への面接などで)関わっている事例(5校)についての検討を行った。それぞれの事例について、特に別室登校を中心とした「校内支援のプロセス」や「支援を促進すると考えられる要因」に焦点をあてて検討を行った。「別室登校」の形態としては、保健室などで常時教員や他の児童生徒とともに居たり関わったりしているケース(オープンなタイプ)、ある特定の教員とのみ別室にて関わるケース(クローズドなタイプ)、一時的に別室を過ごしながら教室での適応をしているケース(教室との併用するタイプ)が見られた。当該の児童生徒の心理や性格による「不登校の状態(段階)」に応じて、どの形態が適当かを判断する必要があり、一つの形態に固執しないほうが良い。そうした判断を適切なものにするために、校内の関係する教員、保護者、スクールカウンセラーなどの支援者が一緒になって協議することが重要である。また、「別室登校」による支援を促進すると考えられる要因としては「本人に関わる周囲の人間の『別室登校』に対する理解」がいずれの学校においても共通して重要であることが明らかになった。特に、保護者と担任教師が、当該の児童生徒にとっての「別室登校」の肯定的な意味を理解していること、「別室登校」による支援に積極的に連携して関わろうとする姿勢をもっていることは、当該の子ども本人にとっても、別室登校で中心的に関わる人間(養護教諭や教育相談担当教諭など)にとっても、心理的なサポートとなり(校内で孤立することがなく)、支援を良い方向に導く要因であることが示唆された。
