Research of Populism as a Global Phenomenon

This study intends to analyze populism phenomenon in today's world. Contents of this study are as follows;1) Analyzing the concept of populism. This study defined 'populism' as a kind of strategies of political parties or politicians appealing the peoples directly to mobilize their political support2) Analyzing circumstances where political parties or politicians to adopt the populism strategies. This study picked up Japan, South Korea, Russian and Taiwan as the samples and analyzed the detailed political process for the political parties or politicians to adopt the strategies.3) Analyzing reasons why political parties or politicians to adopt the strategies. This study found that decline of confidences in politics, especially them in political parties and parliaments, head the political parties or politician to heavily rely on personal popularities of political leaders. This study also found that there were effects of globalization and the end of cold war behind the declines of confidences in politicsThis study has great academic meaning in political sciences in the meaning that it gave overall understanding of today's 'populism' phenomenon.
