This proposed research project has produced significant amount of research outcomes, such as in many technical papers published in international journals and presentations in prestigious international conferences.Head investigator, Yoshihiro NARITA, and his co-workers Katsuhiko SASAKI and Tsuyoshi MAYAMA, published papers on optimizations of composite structural elements specially design for bonnet and roofs of automobiles. These papers were published in Transactions of JSME (Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers) and famous journals such as International Journal of Mechanical Science, International Journal of Solids and Structures and Key Engineering Materials. Particularly noted is that SASAKI was successful in starting applications of nano-composites. The experimental results were obtained by a computer-operated efficient testing material machine purchased by this Grant-in-Aid.OHTA (HIT) was successful in extending his own GA (Genetic Algorithm) approach to the current problem, and NARISAWA (KNCT) obtained promising results for making curved composite materials. He also developed a computer program for analyzing curved elements. Thus, it is concluded that the initial purpose of this research project was clearly accomplished.
