本研究では、ホワイトカラー層の中核的存在であり、現代企業の組織能力の担い手となった中間管理者層の形成過程を、アメリカの巨大企業ゼネラル・エレクトリック社とデュポン社について明らかにするとともに、ビジネス・スクールがその形成に果たした役割をウォートン・スク-ルの卒業生の分析によって明らかにしようとした。その結果、中間管理者層の内部労働市場の形成の過程、ミドル・マネジメントからトップ・マネジメントが再生産されるメカニズム、かれらの学歴とキャリアについて多くの知見を得ることができた

This study focuses on the existence of the core in the organizational layer, the role of the organizational capacity of modern enterprises, and the formation process of the middle management layer. It also focuses on the analysis of the results of the formation of the middle management layer in large enterprises.
