本年度は、(1)非分割財の配分問題、(2)相互評価の問題、(3)有害施設の立地問題、に関ずるメカニズム・デザインの研究を行った。非分割財の配分問題に関しては、貨幣による補償が可能な状況において1単位の非分割財を配分するメカニズムの集合の中に、戦略的操作不可能性、対称性、予算の均衡という3つの公理を満たすものが存在しないことを証明した。さらに、予算の均衡の要求をせず、戦略的操作不可能性と対称性を満たすメカニズムの集合の性質について詳しく検討した。相互評価の問題にしては、社会の構成員が互いに評価を行いランキングを作成するという状況において、望ましいメカニズム(集計方法)について考察を行った。ここで、各個人は自分のランキングを上げるために、自分についての評価をより高くするかもしれない。そこで、各個人が伝える情報の中から、自分に関する情報を取り除くことが適切であると考えた。このとき、ある種の効率性を満たすメカニズムは、唯一ボルダ・ルールだけであることを証明した。有害施設の立地問題に関しては、立地候補となっている各都市で賛否の投票を行い、有害施設を建設する都市を決定するメカニズムについて考察した。実際、韓国で核処理施設の建設にあたって、この種のメカニズムが用いられたことがある。まず、そのメカニズムが、戦略的操作不可能性やある種の単調性を満たすことを証明した。次に、戦略的操作不可能性や単調性を満たすメカニズムの集合の特定を試みた。これらの研究は、メカニズム・デザインの手法を身近な社会・経済問題に応用し、有益な知見を与えることに成功しているといえる。
