本年度は、1930年代に新中間層によって都市郊外に形成された教育文化を事例として分析し、いくつかの研究会でその成果を報告した。その成果とは、次の2つである。第1に、千葉師範学校附属小学校の主事などを務め、八大教育主張(1921年)において「自由教育論」を提示した手塚岸衛が、硬直化が指摘されていた一斉教授を中心とする画一的な教育を斥けて、自由教育を実践するために設立した自由ヶ丘学園(1930年設立)にその名が由来する自由が丘に形成された教育文化と、箱根土地株式会社を中心として開発され、1927年に分譲が開始された国立に展開した教育文化を、成城に形成されたものと比較しながら考察したものであり、第2に、三田谷啓が1927年に設立した三田谷治療教育院や桜井祐男が1925年に設立した芦屋児童の村小学校が位置していた芦屋を中心とする地域において、どのような教育文化が展開していたのかを、東京に形成されたものと比較しながら記述したものである。研究会での報告を通じて、日本近代教育史を専攻する研究者からだけではなく、他の学問領域を専攻する研究者から、筆者未見の史料を紹介していただいたり、立論に関して助言していただくことができた。それらを踏まえていくつかの文献を購入し、それらを読み込み、報告に手を加え、改めて論文化しているところであり、公表は今年度に間に合わなかった。来年度以降に脱稿し、学会誌などに投稿することにしたい。
