项目摘要

2000年鳥取県西部地震の余震域とその周辺地域に分布する断層ガウジを主な対象とした。また2007年新潟県中越沖地震の震源断層との関連が注目されている鳥越断層に沿う断層ガウジと比較検討した。1. 鳥取県西部地域において、断層ガウジの組織と色を実体顕微鏡を用いて観察した。またXRDを用いて鉱物組成を求めた。余震域外のリニアメントでは全体的にスメクタイトのみを含有し濃緑色を呈する。最新のガウジは少量のイライトを含み褐色を呈する。一方、2000年地震断層から20m以内のガウジは、灰白色〜灰緑色のスメクタイトが卓越するイライト/スメクタイト混合層鉱物を含有し、最新のガウジのみイライトだけで構成され青緑色を呈する。褐色のガウジ帯では空隙が多く天水が容易に通過したと考えられる。すなわちごく低温の熱水変質作用ないしは風化作用(鉄鉱物の沈殿)を被る頻度や時間に差異があり、余震域外のリニアメントでより大きかったと考えられる。2. 新潟県中越地域において、活断層である鳥越断層の西方約200mに露出する断層ガウジを記載するとともに、実体顕微鏡を用いて観察した。断層活動に伴う二次剪断面の形成に前後して、褐色を呈する鉄鉱物の沈殿が生じていることが確認された。つまり風化作用が生じる程度の浅所(一般に数 10m)で最近(恐らく数万年以内)に形成されたガウジであるとともに、その位置から鳥越断層の副断層である可能性が高い。すなわち鳥取地域と同様な活動性と色(鉄鉱物)の関連を認めることができた。3. 上記の成果を中心に、日本地質学会第114年学術大会にて発表した。
