学級を基盤にした学習の共同化を進めるための理論的・実践的な枠組みを検討し、共同化モデルを開発するための要素を抽出し、授業実践のための指針を明らかにした。(1)学級論・学習集団論に関する歴史的・理論的総括、(2)学びの共同体論に関する理論的・実証的総括、(3)習熟度別学習論・特別なニーズ教育論における学習の共同化論の総括を行い、学習の共同化モデルを開発する要素と枠組みを明らかにした。なお、教科指導を中心に研究し、選択学習・生活科の学習・選択学習等に関しては、(1)から(3)までの視点に含めて研究した
