モルテン・ペデルセンは、ミャンマーの軍事政権に対する外国からの制裁論的な観点を強調した政策を批判的に考察することによって、現実的かつより対話を重視した建設的な援助政策の立案を主張している点で注目されるものである。また、現地での調査研究を通じて国連及びEU等の機関に対して援助政策に関する助言を提供するなどの活動を行った。それらの一環として、2008年年4月には、EUの対ミャンマー援助政策に関してTimo Kivimaki氏と共同して、諮問意見を"Burma:Mapping the Challenges and Opportunities for Dialogue and Reconciliation.Report prepared for the European Commission on behalf of the Crisis Management Initiative"という表題で提出した。また国連大学との関係では、武力紛争と平和構築に関するセミナーにおいて講師を務め、また"Principled Engagement as a Distinct Strategy for Promoting Human Rights"と題する研究プロジェクトの立案に貢献した。これらの研究業績は、各国または国際機関による開発援助政策を考える上で、実際的な重要な意義を有していると考えられる。なお、本人は、研究員期間終了に伴い、2009年1月からオーストラリア国立大学のアジア太平洋研究所の研究員に就任した。
