本プロジェクトはバイオマス, およびバイオマス由来化合物の高温高圧水中における反応を高温(400~600℃), 高圧(40~1000MPa)条件下で行い, その反応条件依存性の解明を行った. 本実験条件において六炭糖, 五単糖、三炭糖の反応は水密度の増加にともない, 脱水, ベンジル酸転位, 異性化反応は増加し, レトロアルドール反応は減少することを明らかにした. 超高圧条件の提供により, 反応の促進, 抑制が無触媒で可能であることを明らかにした.
